Jericho Systems Corporation Announces the Release of Consentral on FHIR for the Control of Sensitive Health Information
Consentral supports 42 CFR Part 2 compliance
Jericho Systems Corporation, inventor of Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) enterprise solutions, announces the release of Consentral for patient directed consent management. Consentral works as an "add on" solution to Jericho's EnterSpace Exchange Privacy Service.
Consentral allows patients to create interoperable consent directives, supporting a variety of industry standards with feedback to monitor compliance. Consentral is a sophisticated solution that collects a patient's preferences on how their electronic medical records should be exchanged and transmitted using an HL7 standard document. The enforcement of these directives works seamlessly alongside the Exchange Privacy Service to ensure compliance including sensitivities covered under U.S. Title 42 CFR Part 2.
Consentral is being demonstrated at the HIMSS 2015 Interoperability Showcase in support of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of National Coordinator (ONC) Health Information Technology for the Privacy on Fast Health Interoperable Resources (FHIR®) pilot initiative. This demonstration follows Jericho’s Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P) pilot for the ONC Standards and Interoperability (S&I) Framework, which resulted in the HL7 Implementation Guide: Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P).
"The work done in this pilot shows that security and privacy is being built into the FHIR specification and can support the advanced privacy and care coordination requirements mandated by substance abuse and mental health communities," said Michael Dufel, Jericho Systems Chief Software Architect.
Consentral consumer options include the selection of receiving organizations, organizational roles, sensitivities, and purposes of use (POU) that are either authorized or restricted for the sharing or exchange of that patient’s personal health information. This approach also allows dynamic labeling and redaction of sensitive information based on defined privacy policies.
Consentral's "patient friendly" easy to use features include:
  • Choose to participate in your local Health Information Exchange (opt-in or opt-out)
  • Create consent directives that decide who can see your health information (control information with exceptions)
  • Select which sensitive information you do not want to share (control information with restrictions)
Consentral implements open standards such as FHIR, OAuth 2.0, Open ID Connect, and the User-Managed Access (UMA) profile of OAuth 2.0. The FHIR standard provides a RESTful approach for the controlled sharing of healthcare information.
"Centralizing and automating patient consent is a giant step forward in enabling the consumer to actively participate in the exchange of their personal electronic health data," said Brynn Mow, CEO of Jericho Systems. "We believe this leads to better coordination of care and improved patient outcomes."
Jericho’s support for ONC’s Health Information Technology is being performed under subcontract to Rainmakers Strategic Solutions. Rainmakers is a healthcare focused, woman-owned small disadvantaged business dedicated to providing innovative solutions to government agencies, including CMS, HHS, VA and MHS.
